The Historic Eastern Beaches! (NEW FOR 2026)
Sun, Oct 18, 6:00 PM\*\***The Toronto History Walks Yearly Pass is available. Get it now for $125.00 for 1 year of unlimited tours, email** [torontohistorywalks@gmail.com](http://torontohistorywalks@gmail.com%2A%2A/) **for more information or for signing up!\*\*** \*\* **Please note: Please e-transfer the ticket price when booking your space for this tour! You can e-transfer to the following email at:** [torontohistorywalks@gmail.com](http://torontohistorywalks@gmail.com%2A%2A/) **This tour is a revised route for 2026.** The area was first settled in 1794 by the Ashbridge family, whose name is remembered by the nearby bay and park. Their homestead on Queen Street East was well to the west of the area currently identified as the Beaches. A later generation of the Ashbridge family rebuilt the family home in 1854 and can be seen on Queen Street East opposite the TTC barns near Kingston Road. The Beaches remained a sparely settled community until the end of the 19th century when extension of the Grand Truck Railway, the draining of the northern parts of Ashbridges Bay, and the construction of street car tracks on Queen Street and Kingston Road, opened the area to settlement. From Sunnyside Amusement Park built in 1922 to Scarboro Beach built in 1906, it seemed that Toronto cornered the market on summertime chills and thrills. We had 5 major amusement parks along our waterfront, and two smaller parks, Victoria Park and Munro Park, virtually unknown to Torontonians today, but extremely popular summertime places, years ago as pleasure parks. This walking tour is for all walking levels and fitness skills. Please dress for the season and bring water. And remember to bring your love of history. It begins outside the Beaches Branch of the Toronto Public Library at Queen Street East, and Lee Avenue adjacent to Kew Gardens. The tour ends where we started, back at the library. This tour has a ticket price of $15.00 per person. \*\* **Please note: Please e-transfer the ticket price when booking your space for this tour! ๐ Fall Walk of Toronto Island ๐๐! 9KM
Sat, Oct 17, 2:00 PM# ๐๐ FALL WALK: TORONTO ISLANDS ๐๐ ### Island Paths, Fall Colours & Toronto's Best Urban Escape There is something magical about the Toronto Islands in the fall. Once the summer crowds disappear, the islands become quieter and more peaceful. The changing leaves, crisp air, open green spaces, quiet cottages, and golden light over the water make it one of the best times of year to explore. And then there's the skyline. From the islands, you get some of the best views of Toronto anywhere in the city โ especially when the fall colours frame the downtown skyline across the water. Join us for a relaxed fall walk through **Hanlan's Point, Centre Island, and Ward's Island**, enjoying the scenery, fresh air, and great conversation along the way. This is approximately **9 km**, with mostly flat paths and no major hills. It's a longer walk, but the pace will be relaxed and we'll take breaks along the way ๐ฑ Don't forget to join our **WhatsApp Group โ [CLICK HERE](https://chat.whatsapp.com/H59mSCbsAi018gYANrKAnc)** *** ## ๐ถโโ๏ธ What We'll Do We'll take the **10:15 AM Ward's Island Ferry** and begin our walk once we arrive. Although we'll pass several beaches, **we won't be stopping at them during this event**. We have a route to follow and a ferry to catch! Our return ferry will be the **2:45 PM Ward's Island Ferry** back to downtown Toronto. Expect approximately **3ยฝ to 4 hours**, including the ferry rides and breaks. *** ## ๐ Fall Weather & Expectations The islands can feel quite different from downtown Toronto, especially in the fall. Expect cooler temperatures, wind off the lake, and changing weather. Please dress in layers and bring a jacket or sweater. This is a **social walk, not a guided historical tour**. I'll share interesting facts along the way, but the focus is enjoying the islands together. *** ## ๐งข Meetup Details ๐ **Meetup Location:** **INSIDE the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal after your ticket has been scanned.** We are meeting **inside the paid waiting area beside the washrooms.** **Please do NOT wait outside the terminal.** Once your ferry ticket has been scanned, walk into the waiting area and you'll find me wearing my **Moose Hat**. ๐ซ โฐ **Meetup Time:** **10:00 AM** ๐ข **Ward's Island Ferry LEAVES AT:** **10:15 AM** Please be on time. **Once the ferry leaves, it will be extremely difficult to catch up with the group.** ๐ข **Return Ferry:** 2:45 PM from Ward's Island ๐๏ธ **Ferry Ticket:** $9.19 You must purchase your ferry ticket **before signing up for the event.** [CLICK HERE FOR FERRY TICKETS](https://secure.toronto.ca/FerryTicketOnline/tickets2/index.jsp) *** ## ๐๏ธ Meetup Fee **$5 cash in person or e-transfer** ๐ง **mathewmaclean@hotmail.com** This fee helps support the group and allows us to continue organizing events throughout Toronto. *** ## ๐ What to Bring ๐ง Water ๐ Comfortable walking shoes ๐ฅจ A snack ๐งฅ A warm fall jacket or sweater ๐ถ๏ธ Sunglasses ๐ธ Camera or phone for photos *** ## ๐ Who Is This For? ๐๐ฟ NEW FALL WALK: Discover Biidaasige Park ๐ฟ๐
Sun, Oct 25, 3:00 PM# ๐๐ฟ **NEW FALL WALK: Discover Biidaasige Park** ๐ฟ๐ ### A Brand-New Toronto Park, Fall Colours & Waterfront Trails We're trying something **new**! Join us for our first group walk to **Biidaasige Park**, one of the newest and most ambitious parks in Toronto. Opened as part of the massive transformation of the Port Lands, the park sits on **Ookwemin Minising**, Toronto's new island where the Don River meets Lake Ontario. This isn't a walk we've done before, which makes it a little more exciting. We'll spend much of the afternoon actually **exploring the park rather than rushing through it** โ following its trails, enjoying the waterfront, taking in the fall scenery, and stopping along the way to appreciate the new landscape. The park is enormous, with more than **50 acres already open** and more sections being added as the Port Lands transformation continues. There are curated trails and paths, viewpoints, natural areas, and places to get down closer to the new Don River. And because we're doing this in the fall, we'll get to experience the park at a completely different time of year โ cooler air, changing leaves, open skies, and fewer summer crowds. ๐ We'll meet at the **Young Centre in the Distillery District** simply because it's an easy and convenient meeting point before we head toward the park. We won't be spending the day touring the Distillery District โ **the park is the destination.** ๐ฒ **Don't Forget to join our WhatsApp Group โ [\[CLICK HERE!\]](http://xn--%5Bclick%20here!%5D(%20join%20our%20whatsapp%20group-cu832c:%20Click%20here%20to%20join)/)** *** ## ๐ถโโ๏ธ **What We'll Do** We'll meet outside the **Young Centre for the Performing Arts** and make our way toward Biidaasige Park. Once we reach the park, we'll slow things down and spend about **90 minutes exploring the trails and waterfront**. Along the way we'll: * ๐ Enjoy the fall colours * ๐ฟ Explore the park's trails and green spaces * ๐ Walk along the new waterfront landscape * ๐ธ Stop for photos and scenic views * ๐ณ Explore the natural areas around the new Don River * ๐ Take in views toward the Toronto skyline and Toronto Islands * ๐ถโโ๏ธ Enjoy plenty of time to walk and talk with the group The walk itself will be approximately **2 hours**, but we're not trying to race through it. **This is about experiencing the park.** It's our first time doing this walk, so we'll take our time and actually enjoy discovering what has been created here. *** ## ๐ **Why Biidaasige Park?** Biidaasige Park is part of one of the biggest transformations Toronto has seen in decades. The new Don River was created as part of the Port Lands Flood Protection project, transforming former industrial land into a new river valley, wetlands, parkland and public spaces. The first phase of Biidaasige Park opened in July 2025. The park includes **accessible trails, cycling paths, river access, wetlands, viewpoints and waterfront promenades**, with views toward the Toronto Islands, Inner Harbour and skyline. And there's something particularly fun about visiting a place that is still **brand new**. We're not revisiting an old Toronto favourite. **We're discovering somewhere new together.** *** ## ๐บ **After the Walk: The Keating Channel Pub & Grill** After exploring the park, we'll head over to **The Keating Channel Pub & Grill** for lunch. The pub sits right on the Keating Channel and has been a local fixture in the area for more than 20 years. After years of Port Lands construction made the neighbourhood difficult to reach, the transformation of the area has brought new life and new visitors back to the waterfront. It's a nice way to finish the day: **a brand-new park followed by one of the neighbourhood's old survivors.** Lunch is optional, but everyone is welcome to join us. *** ## ๐ **Fall Weather & Expectations** This is a **social urban walk**, not a difficult hike. We'll be walking for approximately two hours, including our time exploring the park, so you should be comfortable being on your feet for that length of time. Please dress for typical Toronto fall weather. The waterfront can be cooler and windier than other parts of the city, so a warm layer is a good idea. *** ## ๐งข **Meetup Details** ๐ **Meetup Location:** Outside the **Young Centre for the Performing Arts**, 50 Tank House Lane, in the Distillery District. Young Centre for the Performing Arts ๐ซ **Look for me in my Moose Hat!** โฐ **Meetup Time: 11:00 AM sharp** I will only wait **5 minutes**. **Early is on time. On time is late.** ๐ **End Point:** The Keating Channel Pub & Grill *** ## ๐๏ธ **Meetup Fee** **$5 cash in person or e-transfer** ๐ง **mathewmaclean@hotmail.com** This fee helps support the group and allows us to continue organizing walks and events throughout Toronto. *** ## ๐ **What to Bring** ๐ง Water ๐ Comfortable walking shoes ๐ฅช A snack ๐งฅ Weather-appropriate clothing ๐ธ Your phone or camera for photos *** ## ๐ **Who Is This For?** This walk is great for: * People who enjoy discovering new places in Toronto * Anyone who likes parks and waterfront trails * People who want a relaxed social walk * Anyone interested in seeing Toronto's newest public spaces * People who enjoy exploring somewhere they've never been before * Anyone who wants to spend a fall day outside with good people The park may be new. **The idea is the same: come out, walk with us, and meet some people along the way.** *** ๐ฒ **You're welcome to RSVP ahead of time โ or just show up on the day if you're unsure about your schedule.** Sometimes things happen and events may need to be cancelled or changed, so please keep an eye on the event page for updates. ๐ค **Organizer: Mathew** Questions? Post on the event wall or email: ๐ง **torontomoviesandoutings@hotmail.com** **Come discover a new park.** **Stay for the fall colours.** **Stay a little longer for lunch and friendship.** ๐๐ฟ๐บ
