Silverlake can be quite beautiful at night. Walk is mostly easy 2.2 miles RT around the lake. Walk is approx. 1 hour. There is short uphill on this walk--approx. 10 minutes Some members go to the local Oyster bar afterwards. **Rain will cancel walk. Dogs ok as long as on leash.** Parking: Street parking. Mt Kilimanjaro Trek! One of the 7 Summits! A bucket list adventure

**Our Meetup is off to another hiking adventure! Mt Kilimanjaro, as the tallest mountain in Africa, is included in the 7 Summits of the world.** **It is a bucket-list item for all hard-core hikers and mountain lovers.** We did this trek with Meetup in the summer of 2024 and it was a true experience of a lifetime (see photos below) Let's get to some numbers. It is 5,895m/19,340ft BUT . . . our starting elevation for the trek is 3795m/12541ft As such elevation gain is 2100m/6799ft To compare Everest Base Camp trek, is about 2754m/9035ft elevation change. And Mt Whitney is about 1828m/6000ft elevation change. The key to being able to succeed in this endeavor lays in the route and the support system. We are taking the Lemosho Route via the Northern Circuit. The Northern Circuit route is the longest and newest of the seven established Kilimanjaro routes. It's one of the best routes because it has the best acclimatization profile. This results in one of the highest summit success rates. Add to that stunning views, and comparatively relaxed pace. It is also much less crowded than the other Kilimanjaro routes. As far as our support system: We will be accompanied by experienced guides, porters and cooks. They are certified, ensuring our safety and comfort. Porters will carry our gear. We will have a high ratio of guides to hikers. Our guides will go our pace and support each and everyone of us, regardless of fitness level and pace. In other words...you go your own speed and we all get there safe. More about our trek/trip. As with all our international trips, we picked the best season/time of year to go for weather and wildlife. Lemosho and Northern Circuit is a scenically spectacular and varied route. At the lower elevations it has an abundance of wildlife such as elephant, buffalo, eland and lion which come over to forage during dry season. **Each of our trips is personally crafted to offer the best places and best use of time.** *But I don't have the needed gear?!* You don't need much more than the standard trekker's equipment. "Route-ed & Rising": A 7.0 Mile Urban Hike Thru Altadena 18 Months Post-Fire

Come join me and our guest hike leader Ann for our next Moderate-Plus urban hike around the streets of Altadena, 18 months after the Eaton fire. We'll continue to explore this beautiful corner of Los Angeles as it rebuilds for the future. We will also check out the newly unveiled art project by Austin Scott, the largest mural in Altadena. **NOTE**: Before signing up, be sure to review the safety guidelines and policies below, including the 'No Crashing'/'Guests Must Also Sign Up' policy and the 'Timeframe for Cancelling an RSVP/Signup' policy. **LEVEL**: Moderate-Plus speed, some long street inclines. We are a friendly group that loves to socialize and encourages newcomers, but please note that moderate+ level of cardio fitness and fast walking speed are required. **LENGTH**: 7.0 miles, some long street inclines. Elevation gain is 700ft. Approximately 2:30 hours. **SPEED**: Moderate Plus speed. We will try to take a quick pause to re-group at the top of hills. There will be no sweep, so bring your phone for navigation just in case you fall behind or want to leave early. **BRING**: Exercise outfit, workout shoes, and sufficient water. **MEETING POINT**: We will meet for introductions at 8:30 am near 1000 East Altadena Drive, at the corner of East Altadena Drive and Maiden Lane in Altadena, CA, and take off sharply at 8:35 am. **RESTROOMS**: There are none along the way, unless you count any random Port-a-Potties that we might come across along the route. **PARKING**: Free street parking around the intersection of East Altadena Drive and Maiden Lane. Parking at your own risk. **'NO CRASHING'/'GUESTS MUST ALSO SIGN UP':** ALL participants MUST sign up through the Meetup app and check in with the leader upon arrival. If someone is a bringing a guest, then that guest MUST also sign up as well through the Meetup app *before* the hike, IF space is still available. There are NO exceptions. The waitlist, if any, generally clears in order. Members with a good attendance record and a posted picture (LA Hiking Group rule) may get some priority. **TIMEFRAME FOR CANCELLING AN RSVP/SIGNUP**: Please sign up only if you think there's a *realistic* chance that you will make the hike. If folks sign up and then decide that they can't make it, please be sure to change your RSVP to "Not Going" at least 24-36 hours before the scheduled time for the hike in order: (1) allow me to more accurately predict the number of participants on the hike, and (2) allow people on the waitlist to join the hike within a reasonable amount of time of the hike. Waiting until the last minute to cancel (or simply not showing up) is not fair to me and to other LA Hiking members. **PROFILE NAME AND PIC**: Be sure to update your profile to indicate at least your first name and include a picture showing your face, per group policy. Trails Cafe Hike to the Griffith Park Observatory and Snack/Light Lunch at Top!

Greetings, Transition To Green Community! We will be returning to our much-beloved meeting spot at the Trails Cafe, and then enjoy a hike up to the Griffith Observatory, a hike our group has done many times before. Remember that all Transition To Green hikes are family-friendly (and for children above the age of eight). We have welcomed pleasant, cooler autumn weather since the end of October, with even a few light showers, and anticipate mild conditions for our November hike, with excellent outdoor conditions expected for our trek in beautiful Griffith Park. We will be meeting in front of the Trails Café on the second Sunday of the month. During the winter months - e.g. January, February, and March, we will meet at 10:00 a.m., and will hit the beautiful nearby trails no later than 10:15 a.m. At our halfway point, at the Griffith Observatory, we will stop for a snack or light early lunch at the Cafe at the End of the Universe, where we've enjoyed some healthful meals during recent hikes, with a newly expanded menu including veggie and vegan options (by request) also available. Please bring a reusable water bottle and wear hiking boots or tennis shoes with good treads on them for gripping the ground. Also, bring a hat or visor in case the Sun decides to beam down on us. Wear some SPF 30 on your skin, especially if you're light-complexioned. You may want to apply some sunblock on your nose to prevent burning there. **Transition To Green isn't liable for you in the city park - Griffith Park area, which includes the hiking trails.
