Who Did We Build This For? Rethinking AI Before It Goes Live

Who Did We Build This For? Rethinking AI Before It Goes Live

Fri, Nov 6, 4:00 PM
From Friday Coffee Meetup
4.8

Anisa Abeytia didn't set out to build a company focused on healthcare AI. The idea that eventually became FourthSpace began as a project in her master's program and took her through humanitarian work around the world, where she saw firsthand what happens when technology designed with one set of assumptions meets the complexities of real people, cultures, and environments. Those experiences ultimately led Anisa to healthcare, where AI is rapidly changing how organizations interact with patients — and where getting the assumptions wrong can have significant consequences. In this talk, Anisa will share her path to becoming the Founder of FourthSpace and the experiences and lessons that shaped the company along the way. FourthSpace is an independent evaluation company focused on identifying risks in patient-facing healthcare AI before systems are deployed. Anisa will introduce four critical areas organizations should examine during development and some of the key questions teams should be asking before an AI system ever reaches a patient. But her message extends well beyond healthcare. Successful technology isn't just about what we build — it's about understanding who we're building it for, what we've assumed about them, and what we need to ask before **we launch.** **Anisa's Bio** Anisa Abeytia is the Founder and CEO of FourthSpace Solutions, an AI governance consultancy focused on identifying risks in patient-facing healthcare AI before systems are deployed. Her work brings together systems thinking, technical evaluation, and lived community experience to help organizations build more accountable and inclusive technology. Anisa is a member of the G7/G20 Research Group at the Center for AI and Digital Policy and serves as Research Lead on the Invisible Hands Project, the first comparative study of the AI gig workforce in the MENA region. She previously served as a UNHCR Innovation Fellow and currently advises organizations focused on AI and digital inclusion. Anisa introduced the concept of Artificial Wisdom — a framework centering accountability and lived community knowledge alongside data — to the UN’s Independent International Scientific Panel on AI. FourthSpace Solutions was recently selected for Harvard Business School’s Deep Tech Foundry Cohort. **Accessibility:** FoundrSpace is located in a historic building without elevator access. Sun, Nov 15, 10:00 PM
From Women in Big Data - Southern California Chapter
4.8

Our next **Women in Big Data SoCal Book Club** is here! Join us for an afternoon of good conversation, coffee, and a thought-provoking discussion about how AI is changing the way we live and work. **This Quarter's Book** ***[I Am Not a Robot: My Year Using AI to Do (Almost) Everything](https://joannastern.com/)*** by **Joanna Stern** What happens when a technology journalist decides to let AI take over almost every aspect of her life? In *I Am Not a Robot*, Joanna Stern documents her year-long experiment using AI to tackle everything from work and productivity to everyday tasks and personal decisions. The book explores what happens when we move beyond simply *using* AI tools and start relying on them to do things we would normally do ourselves. Expect plenty of humor, curiosity, and questions about what AI can—and perhaps shouldn't—do for us. **About the Author** Joanna Stern is an award-winning technology journalist and video creator best known for her work covering consumer technology, AI, and the ways technology impacts everyday life. She was a senior personal technology columnist at The Wall Street Journal, where she has covered everything from smartphones and computers to emerging technologies and now has started her own tech media company, New Things. **What to Expect** This is a casual, welcoming discussion—not a formal book review! **📣 Haven't read the book yet? You're still invited!** **You** **do not need to finish—or even read—the book to join us.** If you didn't get a chance to read it, you're still welcome to come, listen to the discussion, share your thoughts and perspectives, and be part of the conversation. We'd love to have you there! **Event Details** Date: Sunday, November 15, 2026 Time: 2:00 PM Location: Honesto Cafe - 2927 S Sepulveda Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90064 **Parking:** Plenty of free parking in the lot located behind the cafe ☕ Grab a coffee, bring your thoughts (and your questions!), and join us for our quarterly book club. Hike around Haunted Hayride--last one

Hike around Haunted Hayride--last one

Mon, Nov 2, 2:15 AM
From Los Angeles Hiking Group
4.8

We will walk around the haunted hayride to check it out. Walk is easy walk less than 1 mile. This is the last one for 2026. We are NOT going on the rides or inside. We will walk on trail that goes around it. They usually charge for parking so tell them you are here for a hike and not a customer of the ride. We will meet in front of the merry go round. We will wait 15 or so minutes.
