Sun, Culture & Street Life: A Photowalk

Join us for a relaxed, guided photography walk through the colourful streets of Newtown—exploring its culture, architecture, murals, people, cafés and distinctive shopfronts. This is a fun shooting session rather than a formal photography class. You are welcome to ask questions about cameras, settings or photography along the way, and brief practical guidance will be provided. We may continue a little beyond 4:30 pm when the light and atmosphere are especially good. Afterwards, members are welcome to join us for an optional group dinner. **Attendance is free.** Voluntary contributions to the mentor are welcome and help cover the ongoing cost of maintaining the group. ### Please note This event is for photographers using **DSLR, mirrorless or film cameras**. Phone-only photography is not included in this session. Bring your camera, comfortable walking shoes and a curious eye. All experience levels are welcome, but the emphasis is on enjoying photography, exploring Newtown and meeting other photographers.

August 2026 Painting Meetup

Please note : Everyone is welcome at the Woollahra Painting Meetup from first time beginners to advanced artists. Our Sunday painting sessions include both group and individual guidance from our regular professional artist and tutor, Christina Rogers. Please bring your own art gear including: a canvas or sketch paper, paints, brushes, easel, cleanup paper, etc. We have tables & chairs for those that don't have an easel. We mostly use oil paints but you are welcome to use whatever paint medium you prefer. Please avoid the use of solvents. If you wish to sketch, please bring pencils or charcoal, etc. Come early to setup around 9:45am as technique training usually happens within the first 1/2 hour from 10:00-10:30am. Hot drinks are available for you to make in the kitchen area. A fee of $25 - is payable on the day. Please bring the right change if possible. We look forward to seeing you!

Central / Surry Hills Classic Film Photography

The challenge for today is to capture street images around Central Station, Belmore Park and Surry Hills. Look for the unusual and let your images tell a story. If you feel comfortable enough you could ask a subject for their portrait. The meet up point is the cafe outside the country platforms at 10 am. It is next to the Eternity Cafe. I would recommend monochrome film at 400 ASA or ISO. Hp 5 by Ilford works well as well as Kodak Tri X. It gives a grain effect similar to mid 20th Century film emulsions. I would consider developing the negatives and getting the images scanned to your computer which you can then upload to the meetup page or Instagram. If you have an image, you particularly like you can pick up the negatives from your camera store later. I would recommend Digi Direct at Bondi Junction or Super 8 at Newtown. It is more challenging using film but that is part of the fun. If you don't own a film camera there are two stores in Newtown that sell refurbished 35 mm film cameras or alternatively you can buy a disposable film camera on line or try the two retail stores I suggested earlier. Why not give it a try as there will be more film events in the future.

This walk is beginner-friendly, and all are welcome - whether you've engaged with art before or not. Exchange numbers and make new friends as you listen to interesting stories of Australian and international artists... **MEETING TIME:** 11:00 – 11:10 AM. **MEETING POINT:** Meet outside "Museum" train station entry/exit on the corner of Liverpool and Elizabeth Streets. **START AND PROGRAMME:** We will begin at 11:10 AM, moving towards Liverpool Street. Midway, we will take a short break. **END:** We will end by 2:00 PM. Easy walk back to Town Hall train station. July Meetup for the Sydney Nature Journal Club

Come along to our **July meetup for the Sydney Nature Journal Club**. National Tree Day is 26 July. We will explore this theme in the Botanical Gardens. This is a chance to connect, spend some time in nature and journal together. I will offer some guidance to start. After we can share journal pages and ideas. **What to bring:** Bring along sketchbooks/paper and your favourite drawing materials (pens, pencils, watercolour, acrylic, anything you have). I will have extra materials on the day if you want to explore other mediums. \*\*Where:\*\* We will meet at the Palm House, at the Botanical Gardens. **Cost:** Suggested donation is $10 annual fee, $5 casual fee.
