About us
Real Friends ATL: Meaningful Social Circle (Smyrna Area) is a biweekly meetup for adults of all ages, genders, cultures, and identities who want to build genuine friendships close to home.
The goal is to host affordable, frequent, close to home events - so you can get out and meet people who live in your community, support local businesses, and see people often enough to develop meaningful connections -- without going broke. I try to choose venues that don't revolve around alcohol, but inevitably places like breweries end up in the rotation because they have a lot of space.
I do not cap attendance, nor do I track who shows up. You do not need to check in or let me know if you are late, this is not a group that's going to ban you for no-shows, social awkwardness is assumed and welcome here.
Since starting this group, many events have had high RSVP's. Don't be intimidated, statistically turnout is about 30% of the RSVP list. If you see 100 people coming, you can bet we will probably take up max 3 tables. It always balances out to just the right number of people.
Who this is for:
New to the area? Rebuilding your circle? Introvert, extrovert, or somewhere in between? Youâre welcome. We value kindness, curiosity, and respect across differences.
House rules (brief):
Be kind. No hate speech or harassment. Inclusivity matters! No dating solicitation or sales/MLM recruiting. This is intended to be an all ages group welcome to all genders and needs.
If youâre craving real connection with neighbors you can actually see again in two weeksâthis is your spot. đ
If you have a suggestion for a meetup you'd like to see and are willing to co-host it, message Gwen to get it added to the calendar
Final note: Hosting on Meetup is not cheap (it costs me about $5/week). If you feel so inclined as to make a donation, it is appreciated but not expected or required.

NEW ACHIEVEMENT!
You read a book about a cat. You have developed an unhealthy tendency to discuss this series with people who did not ask. You are now seeking others who will tolerate it.
Statistically, this indicates:
- poor decision-making
- questionable survival instincts
- a deeply concerning willingness to identify with a talking cat
But hey. Youâre still alive. For now.NEW QUEST: âBrave the Outside Worldâ
You must navigate Atlanta traffic, locate a designated gathering zone, and initiate conversation with other humans.
Failure conditions include:
- turning around âbecause parking looked hardâ
- sitting in your car scrolling instead of entering
- making eye contact and immediately leaving
Completion is not guaranteed.đ REWARD?
Youâve received:
- The chance to meet your internet âfriendsâ in real life
- Heated, unnecessary debates about your favorite Mordecai
If you are currently asking, âWhat is a Mordecai?â... This event is not for you.
HUGE THANK YOU TO VIKING ALCHEMIST MEADERY FOR OFFICIALLY HOSTING US. YES, I AM YELLING CARL.
