What we’re about
The Freethinkers Forum of Tallahassee Meetup offers a friendly and educational venue for all to learn and discuss thought-provoking presentations. Those who believe that opinions, religious and otherwise, should be formed based on logic and reason will feel right at home. If you are unfamiliar with freethought or just curious, join in and you'll have an opportunity to learn what freethinkers, humanists, agnostics, atheists, skeptics, and critical thinkers are all about.
Our focus is to provide an environment in which to learn about and discuss a wide variety of subjects including science, social science, medicine, philosophy, religion, history, literature, and current events, to name a few. Meetings begin with a presentation that is not necessarily limited to a secular topic, followed by lively and informative conversation. We meet every Wednesday via Zoom from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. (prior to COVID, we met at UUCT). We start at 7:00 sharp.

An Enigma: The Biology of the Bizarre Giant Spinosaurus , with David Hone
·OnlineOnlineLINK TO ZOOM MEETING:
https://us06web.zoom.us/j/88384219320?pwd=dlR1WHpBM1JJT2ZXdmE5dSthRWp1UT09
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The giant sail-backed carnivorous Spinosaurus is one of the most famous of all dinosaurs. It’s a staple of documentaries, books, movies, and video games, but a great deal of scientific mystery surrounds them. Their fossil remains are highly fragmentary, their evolutionary relationships elusive, and interpretations of their ecology and behavior are hotly contested. So what do we actually know about this "crocodile-headed" animal and its relatives, the Spinosaurs?
MEET THE SPEAKER: Paleontologist David Hone is currently a Reader (Professor) of Zoology at Queen Mary University of London. He is a world-renowned expert on pterosaurs (flying reptiles) and theropod dinosaurs (like Tyrannosaurus rex).
Much of his work involves "archosaur" biology, looking at social behavior, diet, and how these animals evolved over millions of years. Hone analyzes comparative anatomy and paleopathology to understand how these ancient creatures lived and died.
Beyond his books and numerous other publications, David is a prolific science educator. He is highly respected for his ability to bridge the gap between rigorous academic research and engaging storytelling for the public.

In Search of Sexual Pleasure, with Marieke Dewitte
·OnlineOnlineLINK TO ZOOM MEETING:
https://us06web.zoom.us/j/88384219320?pwd=dlR1WHpBM1JJT2ZXdmE5dSthRWp1UT09
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Are there gender differences in the experience of sexual pleasure? How does sexual arousal work between partners? How can we go beyond the shame and create more openness about sex? Pleasure is the most important reason to have sex and yet, this has been long ignored. Why is this? And where did the idea that women experience less sexual pleasure than men come from?
In this talk, researcher Marieke Dewitte will delve into the world of sexual desire, arousal and orgasm and will discuss the differences and similarities that appear between genders. Her aim is to challenge shame, taboos and myths around sex and to take us on a journey of her findings on sexual pleasure.
MEET THE SPEAKER: Marieke Dewitte is clinical psychologist-sexologist and currently works at Maastricht University. She studied at RINO Amsterdam and Gent University, where she also did her PhD on attachment in romantic relationships. Her research focuses on sexual interaction between partners, relational dynamics in sexual arousal, attachment in relation to sexual responses and genital pain in women. In addition to her research, Marieke has worked as a sexologist at the University Hospital of Gent and Maastricht.
