What we’re about
Free, volunteer-led day hikes for fit and confident walkers across London and the surrounding counties.
...
🥾 What to expect
We are a London-based hiking group exploring day hikes across London and the surrounding counties, from scenic woodlands and rolling hills to the occasional muddy field. Our hikes are typically 20 to 25 km (12 to 15 miles) at a moderate to brisk pace, best suited to fit and confident walkers. All hikes are free and led by experienced volunteer organisers, usually starting around 10:00 and finishing mid to late afternoon. Most routes are accessible by train, with optional group travel from central London or the option to meet directly at the hike start point. The group is open to adults aged 21 and over who enjoy longer, more challenging walks in a friendly, well organised community that values fresh air, adventure, and good company.
..
🌱 About Us
Founded in April 2025, we are a lively group that values fresh air, good conversation, and shared adventure. Hiking is about people as much as distance, and we aim to create a friendly, supportive atmosphere on every walk. Beginners and experienced hikers are welcome, as long as the event matches your fitness level.
...
🤝 How We’re Run
The group is run by a small team of experienced volunteer organisers. We plan and lead walks as peers, not professionals. We organise UK day hikes only. We do not run or promote overseas trips, multi-day hikes, paid events, or activities involving travel providers.

💪 Fitness and Walk Difficulty
Most hikes cover around 20 to 25 km (12 to 15 miles) at an average pace of 4.5 to 5.5 km/h (2.8 to 3.4 mph), over hilly and varied terrain. These are not slow or casual walks. Our routes explore classic English countryside, including woodland paths, rolling hills, open ridgelines, and farm tracks. Underfoot conditions can change quickly and may include mud, chalk paths, uneven ground, and occasional steeper sections. After wet weather, standing water and large puddles may be encountered, sometimes reaching above the ankle of standard walking shoes. If you are new to longer hikes, we recommend starting with an easier event and building up gradually.
...

- Hike starts around 10:00
- 30 to 45 minute lunch break

...
👣 Group Size and Pace
The overall pace of the walk will not be adjusted significantly for individuals, so please choose events carefully. Group sizes typically range from 25 to 50 people, and a dedicated back marker is not always present, so participants should stay within sight of others and keep the leader in view where possible.
Participants are responsible for keeping up with the group lead. If you are walking behind someone who is significantly slowing the pace, please move past them to remain with the main group. Faster walkers should wait at junctions, and leaders may pause at key points to allow the group to regroup.
We make reasonable efforts not to leave anyone behind, but if individuals are unable to maintain the stated pace, it is not reasonable or safe for a large group to repeatedly stop or wait.
If you are unsure about the expected pace, please speak to the leader at the start of the walk.
...

FREE HIKE 23km | North Downs Way Dorking to Guildford
Dorking (Main) railway station, Station Approach, RH4 1TF, GB📈 Grade: 🥾🥾🥾 Level 3/5 (Moderate)
📍 MEETING POINT:
🚶 WALK STARTS:
🏁 WALK FINISHES:
- About 16:00 to 17:00 Guildford town centre || Guildford Railway Station (depends on group pace)
Join us for a leisurely (5 to 5.5km/h walking speed) winter walk following the North Downs Way from Dorking to Guildford, a route rich in history, scenery, and quiet countryside. Beginning in Dorking, we first follow a section of the ancient Pilgrims Way. While today it is a peaceful gravel track, in 1170 this route carried medieval pilgrims travelling from Winchester to Canterbury Cathedral to visit the shrine of Thomas Becket following his martyrdom.
Soon, the trail climbs onto the North Downs Way, leading us into tranquil woodland paths with occasional viewpoints opening out across the surrounding landscape. The steady ascent is rewarding rather than strenuous, easing us into the rhythm of the walk.
We continue through West Hanger and Netley Park, where shaded woodland, birdsong, and winter wildlife create a calm and immersive atmosphere. These quieter sections offer a welcome contrast to the open ridges and invite a slower pace.
Our lunch stop is at West Hanger, where picnic tables are available and there is the option to purchase a hot drink from the kiosk. It is an ideal place to rest, refuel, and enjoy the peaceful setting.
Refreshed, we continue on toward Newlands Corner, a much-loved beauty spot offering panoramic views, a café, toilets, and open picnic areas. This is another excellent pause point to take in the wide Surrey Hills scenery.
Leaving Newlands Corner, the path crosses Albury Downs before climbing steadily to St Martha’s Hill. At the summit, the historic hilltop church and sweeping views over the North Downs and Tillingbourne Valley provide one of the most memorable highlights of the day.
From here, we descend toward Guildford across Pewley Down, a beautiful stretch of open chalk downland with far-reaching views and a real sense of space. It is one of the finest viewpoints along the southern edge of the North Downs and a fitting approach into town.
Our journey concludes at Guildford Castle, with time to explore the historic surroundings, wander into the town centre, and optionally round off the day with a celebratory drink at one of Guildford’s welcoming local pubs, including an optional visit to Wetherspoons in the town centre.
