About us
# Just because it's a bad idea doesn't mean it won't be a good time.
Who are we? A group of fun people with similar interests in outdoor & recreational activities and making new friends.
What do we do? Hiking, paddle sports, festivals, ball games, winter activities and social gatherings. Many of our events are suitable for children.
What about extreme sports? Sorry. If you're looking for extreme sports, there are other meetup groups that would be better suited for you.
What are the rules? We ask that you have fun but respect the interests and abilities of others. The event hosts are a group of volunteers who give much of their time to plan and organize events, so due respect is required.
What does it cost? Trial memberships are free for 30 days. Full memberships are just $5 a year. There are two ways to pay. 1) click "Join Us" and pay on-line using secured Stripe. 2) pay cash or check at one of our events to the event host. Your membership will switch from "Trial" to "Paid Member".
The membership fee is to pay for the website. Any remaining balance will be donated to charity.

Boone United Trail & Howard Knob Park
United Boone Trail, 471 New Market Blvd, Boone, NC, USThis will be as much a social event as a hike.
The United Boone Trail is a short 2.5-mile trail that goes halfway up the summit of Howard’s Knob with an elevation gain of about 660'.
Steady uphill with roots and rocks, so good footwear recommended.
After the hike we'll drive 4 miles up to the Howard Knob Park for lunch. I don't want to make any elaborate meal plans, just bring your own meal and if there's anything you'd like to share feel free.
This will be my first time there so am going by researched information. So maybe pack a little patience as well. Here is some additional info:

Beech Mountain hike, eat & play
402 Beech Mountain Pkwy, Beech Mountain, NC, USLet's enjoy the fall season with a day trip to Beech Mountain.
We'll check out the Emerald Outback Trails, and perhaps part of the Beech Mountain greenway. We did this event six years ago and I'm looking forward to returning.
Most of the trails are listed as easy to moderate. A couple are listed as advanced, but I believe that rating is intended for mountain bikers.
Planning to spend about 3 hours on the trails. There are some various options where we can split into two groups if some would like to go at a faster pace, but it needs to be done in an organized fashion so we can regroup.
After the hike we can have a bite to eat. There is a Brick Oven Pizzeria and even a miniature golf course next to the parking lot we can check out.
The one concern I have is parking. Please consider carpooling.
So, let's see who signs up and then we can discuss carpools. From Hickory we need to leave around 9:00. From Morganton about 9:30.
Hope to see you there!
