About us
This is a group for hiking in El Dorado county. Both locals and non-locals welcome (we're usually hiking much closer to Sacramento than the Sacramento-based groups are). Varied days/times, varied lengths and difficulties -- from casual walks to mountains. Varied locations within the county too, but usually on the western slope. Hikes are usually posted about a week before they happen. Pick the events that work for your schedule/interest.
The hikes are free, with free parking as well, except when otherwise noted. It costs us $299 a year to stay on Meetup, so donations are appreciated.
Rules:
- No dogs allowed. Unfortunately, although the dogs were blameless, their owners have repeatedly risked the safety of people, dogs and wildlife in and out of the group. Ignoring this rule will result in immediate removal from the group.
- If you can't make it, change your RSVP -- even if you don't know until 1 minute before the meetup start time, change your RSVP at that time so that we don't wait around for you.
- If there are people RSVPed who haven't arrived yet, we'll generally wait 5 minutes (sometimes longer depending on the circumstances).
- If there's a wait list for a meetup, people with a history of no shows will be removed to make room for those more likely to attend. When there's a wait list, please try to update your RSVP at least a day in advance if you can't make it.
- You hike at your own risk. We try to keep people from getting lost or injured, but you are ultimately responsible for yourself and knowing your limits.
- Any sort of bigotry (based on gender identity, race, religion, etc.) is unwelcome and would result in removal.

El Dorado Trail: Front Yard to The Cut
Along Motherlode, 5808 Motherlode Drive, Placerville, ca, USThis is a moderately-hilly 5.5 mile total out and back featuring the trail's best dynamited railroad cut, a presently-dry creek, and usually cows and cats. We'll get back a little after dark, so bring a light.
To find our hike parking location:
Park in the gravel along Mother Lode by the defunct Front Yard Nursery.
If heading east along Motherlode (which should be the case if you're coming from Sacramento, Shingle Springs or Diamond Springs) you'll be looking for the gravel area on your left just after crossing the railroad tracks. If heading west on Motherlode from Placerville, it's just past Venture Road on your right before the tracks.More info: https://www.eldoradohiking.com/el-dorado-trail-front-yard-151.html
