About us

The Dysfunctional Clubhouse is a low-pressure social group built around movies, games, odd adventures, and the radical idea that meeting people should not feel like a job interview.
Most weeks, Friday is game night and open hangout; Saturday is themed movie night, where six trailers compete for two winning spots on the screen. We also do holidays, outings, public events, and occasional strange experiments. The activities give us something easy to gather around. The people are the point.
Come alone. Arrive late. Leave early. Join a game, talk through a terrible movie, disappear into a side conversation, or quietly get comfortable near other humans. You do not need gaming experience, movie expertise, flawless social skills, or a prepared fun fact.
Maybe you just moved here, recently divorced, changed jobs, lost touch with an old crowd, or discovered that making friends as an adult is absurdly difficult. Introverts, extroverts, neurodivergent humans, total beginners, lifelong geeks, and perfectly ordinary people are all welcome. Aliens are welcome. Accordion players require special permission—we are inclusive, but not reckless.
Many of our regular events happen at our longtime private-home HQ in Elon, and every event listing identifies its location. If coming to a new group—or somebody’s home—feels uncertain, message us. A real human will answer your questions, explain what to expect, or arrange to meet you at the door. We also want public outings and partner events to be genuine entry points into the community.
Some people come every week. Some appear every few months with snacks and a suspicious movie recommendation. Some stay connected through Discord when distance, health, schedules, or energy keep them home. You are allowed to leave the orbit and return without an apology.
Maybe you need someone to defeat at Uno. Maybe you want a few familiar faces, a new tribe, or friendships that eventually become found family. You do not have to know which one yet.
Have an event idea? Suggesting it does not automatically volunteer you to organize it. Already running something our people might enjoy? We are happy to collaborate, coordinate, or show up as an unusually enthusiastic delegation. Bring the idea; we will help carry the clipboard.
Discord keeps the conversation going between events: https://discord.gg/pC7PxXjeWq
Come as you are. There will be something to do, but you do not have to perform.
