The Des Plaines Public Library Hosts a wide range of events from book clubs to film screenings and discussion, trivia and game nights. Some events are in person and some are online via zoom. Join us for fun and enrichment!

Film Talk Tuesdays: Inside Llewyn Davis (2013)
·OnlineOnlineWatch Inside Llewyn Davis (2013) at home, and then come join us over Zoom to discuss it. This movie can be watched on Kanopy, a free movie streaming app which you can sign up for with your library card. A library staff member will lead the film discussion.
A Coen Brothers film about a week in the life of a young folk singer navigating the music scene of Greenwich Village in 1961 who, with his guitar in tow, struggles to make it against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, some of them of his own making.

Thursday Evening Book Club: The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon

Maine, 1789: When the Kennebec River freezes, entombing a man in the ice, Martha Ballard is summoned to examine the body and determine cause of death. As a midwife and healer, she is privy to much of what goes on behind closed doors in Hallowell. Her diary is a record of every birth and death, crime and debacle that unfolds in the close-knit community.
Copies of these books are available at the Readers Services desk on the 3rd floor of the library. Registration required. The book club will meet in the Room C on the first floor of the Des Plaines Public Library @ 7:30pm on January 22nd.
