The Data Collection Gambit: Why the False Sacrifice is No Longer Necessary (Rob King, Chronosphere)
For years, engineering teams faced a strategic tradeoff: rich, contextual observability data from vendor agents, or basic open source metrics with maximum flexibility. As a 2000-rated chess player and Solutions Engineering Leader, I've watched companies navigate this choice across countless implementations. But the strategic landscape has fundamentally changed. OpenTelemetry has achieved feature parity with proprietary agents, delivering the same depth of instrumentation while expanding strategic options. This talk explores the strategic thinking behind modern data collection architecture, using chess principles to navigate the new landscape where you can optimise for both data quality and vendor flexibility. We'll examine real-world adoption patterns and why 2025 marks the tipping point where open source first becomes a viable strategic choice.Rob is a Solutions Engineering Leader with 12+ years architecting enterprise observability strategies. Specialises in cloud-native infrastructure, OpenTelemetry implementations, and AI/ML observability patterns. 2000-rated chess player who applies strategic thinking to complex technical challenges. Frequent speaker on observability strategy, AI and open source data collection.
Testing in Cloud-Native - Time for A New Approach! (Ole Lensmar, Testkube)
As we trade monoliths for microservices, VMs for containers, and static infrastructure for ephemeral environments, our testing strategies can’t be stuck in the past. Add GitOps, event-driven pipelines, and progressive delivery to the mix, and suddenly your old CI test suite looks like a rotary phone in a 5G world!
In this talk, I'll dissect how testing needs to evolve for dynamic, cloud-native systems—where infra is code, deployments are async, and GitOps is at the heart of your software delivery process. We’ll explore patterns for validating code and infrastructure in ephemeral environments, injecting functional, load, and e2e tests into modern, composable pipelines.Ole started building with XML APIs in the late 90:ies and has since then worked with multiple technologies and startups, most notably as creator of SoapUI in 2004 and Chairman of the Swagger / OpenAPI Initiative in 2015. He joined Testkube at its inception in 2021 and is now entirely focused on ensuring its success at bringing continuous testing to the cloud-native space. When not at his laptop he can be found playing a guitar or riding a bike, but rarely both at the same time.
The Next Decade of Cloud Native (Ihor Dvortskyi, CNCF)
Celebrating 10 Years of Cloud Native ComputingIhor Dvoretskyi is a Senior Developer Advocate at the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF), where he drives the adoption and evangelism of cloud native and open source technologies globally. With nearly a decade of experience in the ecosystem, Ihor has made significant contributions to Kubernetes and other key projects, and co-authored several industry certifications. Based in Kyiv, Ukraine, he is also involved in digital transformation and defense tech initiatives in Ukraine. Ihor is a frequent speaker at leading conferences and is passionate about building strong, inclusive open source communities.
