It's important to us that you enter and leave the makerspace with the same number of fingers and toes that you entered with. That's why every CCM member, no matter their prior experience, needs to attend SAF101: Basic Safety in the Clear Creek Makerspace before using any equipment on their own.
This mandatory course lays the foundation for a safe and successful experience, guiding you through our comprehensive safety protocols, policies, and the exciting array of equipment available to unleash your potential.
Over the 60-minute workshop, you'll learn key facts like:- not everything's a hammer
- where it's acceptable to crunch on those crumbly granola bars, and
- how to avoid violating the Geneva Convention
After SAF101, you'll receive an automated email inviting you to join the CreateEd program, our one-stop-shop for tracking your training progress and reserving equipment. No join code needed -- just follow the instructions in the follow-up email after completing SAF101.
You'll use the CreateEd program to track your progress, take quizzes to add courses and equipment access to your portfolio, and reserve approved machines 24/7, 365 days a year.Looking for a Safety Orientation on Monday or Tuesday? Sign up for a class with Tyler!ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ

NO PREREQUISITE REQUIRED
This is SHOP 162, and while I highly recommend you take the SHOP 160 steel and SHOP 161 stainless classes, this class does not require a prerequisite. All my welding classes are made to accomodate beginners.
Having said that, aluminum welding is much more difficult than carbon steel and stainless, so expect a challenging class if coming in cold.
In this class, youβll be introduced to the art of Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, or GTAW. You'll be walked through the machine, its settings and capabilities, as well as proper safety. Students will practice using both hands in sync to get the perfect rythm for achieving clean, solid welds.
Each student will recieve 1/4" aluminum coupons they will tack into a formation with 4 of the major welding joints, the Fillet, Lap, Butt, and Corner Joints, to expose you to the most common joints in metal fabrication.
Students will rotate between 2-3 different machines to learn the nuances between models and foot pedal types, as well as the difference between an air cooled welding machine and a water cooled welding machine.
With the fine control of TIG welding you'll have the power to create sleek, strong and clean welds on aluminum!
By the end of this class, youβll walk away with newfound skills, a cool practice piece to take home, and the confidence to take on your next welding adventure.ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
As part of the SHOP162 course, you'll learn:
- The fundamentals of TIG welding (from settings to technique)
- Safety tips for a smooth, safe welding experience
- Why aluminum requires AC and a compatible machine to weld
- How to use Balance to control the cleaning action of the AC
- How to properly prepare aluminum to weld
- Why it seems like aluminum hates you and doesn't want to be welded
- The 4 major joints designs and techniques
Grab your gloves, ignite your imagination, and letβs spark some creativity together! Whether you're building functional pieces or just enjoying the art of welding, Clear Creek Makerspace is the place to light up your potential. Letβs weld! π₯
Spaces are limited, so sign up today and let the sparks fly!βββββββββββPLEASE NOTE!βββββββββββββ
