Est. 2024
Chilled Out Meetups is one of Leeds biggest groups organising social events for 18 to 38 year olds. First time here? See information for new members by clicking this link.
Our events include an organised walk every other week (over summer), coffee and drinks socials, women-only events and one off visits to destinations in Leeds and sometimes further out. We also run 'one off' events from time to time, and hope to add more types of activities in future.
Are you in charge of a venue or other potential event destination? We'd love to hear from you about working together to put on a Meetup. In return for a space, we can offer a large group of new customers and potentially repeat business in the form of one our regular events. Feel free to send us a message.
ORGANISERS WANTED - Our group is co-owned equally by its organisers. Most decisions are made by organizers giving unanimous approval. If you're interested in running events let us know, no matter what type of event you want to do - remember as an organiser you decide the time, place and activity.
We are fully committed to everyone feeling safe and secure at events so there will be zero tolerance for any harassment, unwanted attention or any other disrespectful behavior. This is a space without any kind of prejudice including racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia etc. and this includes 'jokes' and 'memes', please take it elsewhere. We may organise women-only events - if this is a problem then this isn't the right group for you.
You can make a donation to the group here.
If you treat others with kindness and use some common sense you should get along fine here, but if you'd like to check our rules you can see them here.
Our financials are kept open for public viewing. You can see the ledger here.
Upcoming events (4+)
See all- Trevelyan Square (coffee, doughnuts & more...)Doh’hut, Leeds
Trevelyan Square is a calm, quiet outdoor space just a stones throw from the hustle and bustle. Let's make the most of what the summer weather (hopefully) has in store for us, grab something to eat or drink from one of the venues on the square then just hang out.
Here are the venues:
- Doh'hut
This shop sells delicious, artisanal doughnuts and I've been recommending them for a while! They also do coffee and other hot drinks. You can see the menu and prices here.
- Pizza Pilgrims
Another highly rated venue, Pizza Pilgrims do traditional Neapolitan style pizza with a mix of classic and quirky toppings. This is also a sit down restaurant but if you order to go they'll put it in a box for you so you can join us in the square. You can see the menu and prices here.
- Things in Bread
Freshly made sandwiches on bread baked this morning. You can see the menu and prices here.
No worries if you don't want to grab anything, you're welcome to just come to chill and socialize.
Weather
If it's raining when the event is about to start, we'll go up to Trinity Kitchen instead as our back up plan. The event will still go ahead. If you have concerns about weather, please message the hosts directly who will take care of communicating any issues to the group.
- Wonderland Leeds: Immersive Story WalkLeeds Corn Exchange, Leeds
Super exciting event coming to Leeds which shouldn't be missed... Wonderland Leeds is an immersive Alice in Wonderland themed walk around the Leeds City Centre. There are installations spread out over multiple locations, each one telling part of this classic tale. We'll meet at the Corn Exchange steps then do a walking tour and check out each location.
You can see more details at the event website here.
Important: The host will be too busy to answer DMs during the event! Please join our WhatsApp group now - this is the best place to get assistance once an event starts. The link was sent to you in your welcome email.

FAQ
- Distance: Hard to estimate, but around 2-3 miles in total.
- Time: Approximately 2-3 hours to complete the walk. We will spend around 5 minutes at each location, depending on how much there is to see. Due to the nature of this event, it may end later than expected.
- Setting Off: We won't wait long for latecomers. Transport inevitably gets delayed, aim to arrive early and get a coffee whilst you wait. If you arrive slightly late, you might be able to find us inside the Corn Exchange at the exhibit.
- Destination: The last exhibit is at the Royal Armouries. Some members will be heading back into the centre from here if this is convenient for getting your bus/train/car home.
- Map: You can download a PDF map here. There are also locations where you can pick up a physical map which you can see here.
- Kids: We don't allow under 18s in the group but bringing children with you is OK for this event, just add them as +1s to your RSVP.
- Alternative Meeting Points: Sorry, but doing an event like this as a large group already takes a lot of organisation, so we can't join you at an alternative start point or meet up with you later if you break away. If you want to join, please come to the Corn Exchange.
Sensory / Accessibility Information
This is a relatively physically demanding event with the locations spread out widely over the city centre and south bank. The pace will be kept relaxed when moving between exhibits, but to complete the walk in a reasonable time we will will be need to move reasonably fast and we might not spend too long at every location.
Since I expect this event to be popular, there is a possibility of crowds at exhibit locations. There might be some queuing required to see the exhibits. Some exhibits may be noisy and have lighting effects. There won't be an extended break in the middle of this event since there will be time to relax at each exhibit.
Weather
If this event needs to be delayed due to bad weather, an update will be posted here. If there is no update then the event is going ahead as expected. If you have concerns about the weather please DM the host directly.
- Chilled Out Walk: 10 for 10 Charity FundraiserCity Square (Leeds), Leeds
Once again we're doing our longest route, a canal walk from Leeds City Centre to Appley Bridge to raise money for charity. Donate £10 and walk 10 miles to raise money for Ukraine and Gaza. You can visit our fundraising page and make you donation here.
***
Please note, 13:00 is when we set off, so you should arrive for 12:45 at the latest to ensure you don't miss the group. Any type of transport is sensitive to delays, especially busses and trains, so don't get the last service which would make you late if its cancelled and consider arriving early and getting a drink whilst you wait.
We're meeting at the normal spot in City Square then walking on the west portion of the canal towpath all the way to Appley Bridge where we will take the train back into Leeds. We ask for a voluntary donation of £10 to walk 10 miles. If you really want to float the boat out, get 10 people to sponsor you! Let's get fit whilst making new connections and raise money for the needy in Ukraine and Gaza.
Financial Hardship
We recognise that not everyone will be in a position to donate money so all donations are voluntary and we still encourage you to join us on this walk regardless. We will NOT be checking who has or has not donated. You can still help by getting the word out and sharing this event with your contacts.
Meeting Point
- Location: City Square (under the horse statue)
- Time: Please arrive by 12:45 PM. We will set off at 13:00 PM sharp.
- Public Transport: The meeting point is just across from the main train station and nearby to all bus connections.
- Parking: Street parking is very hard to find near the meeting point, consider one of the multi-storey car parks instead. Expect to pay £2 - £3 per hour. Otherwise, consider leaving your car at Appley Bridge train station and travelling into Leeds, then your vehicle will be there at the end of the walk.
- Latecomers: If you're running late, please inform Kris before 1:00 PM so we can wait for a few minutes. If we haven't seen or heard from you by 1:00 PM, we'll assume you won't be attending.
- Alternative Meeting Points: Sorry, our standard group size is too big to arrange a second, later meeting point for some members. Please come to the meeting point at the start time, you can leave the route early if it's more convenient.
Walk Details
- Destination: Apperley Bridge rail station where we will catch the train back into Leeds (or you can connect to other transport methods)
- Distance: 10 miles.
- Challenge: Most of the towpath is now paved. This walk is entirely on the flat with no hills to climb. This is the longest route of the year, but keep in mind you can end the walk early since there are other train and bus connections all along the canal.
- Clothing: Wear the comfiest trainers you have to prevent blisters. Boots are not required for this.
- Afterwards: If you want to stay out for food or drinks there are many, many options in the city centre.
This event is weather-dependent, please check back here for updates before setting off. In the case of severe rain, the walk will be rescheduled to a later date. However, light, infrequent rain will not delay the event. If you have concerns about weather, message the host directly who will take care of communicating any information to the group.
