About us
Central Virginia Trailblazers was established in 2011 as an activity based hiking and outdoor adventure group in Richmond, Virginia. At the time, there were few if any active groups in the area that welcomed hikers and adventure lovers of all experience levels. Over the years, we have brought together over 3,000 like-minded individuals throughout Greater Richmond and beyond who have taken part in over 1,000 adventures.
Our activities reflect the diversity of our members. The hikes on our calendar range from casual, beginner-level strolls through local parks and neighborhoods to strenuous overnight backpacking trips in the Blue Ridge Mountains. In addition to hiking, other popular activities include car camping, kayaking, recreational biking, and social gatherings. Most activities and trips are within an hour or two of Richmond, but we often travel beyond Virginia’s borders for multi-day trips to other states.
A tremendous amount of planning and coordination is required to make these events happen. We are extremely fortunate to have an exceptional group of volunteer organizers (“Adventure Specialists”), all of whom donate their time, effort, talent, and experience to make these amazing trips possible. Their loyalty and dedication is one of the key reasons that CVT stands out from other groups.

Kitsch, Caverns and Cryptids-Weird & Wonderful West Virginia
Oilville Park & Ride, 2273 Oilville Road, Maidens, VA, USJoin me and other CVT friends for a very Griswoldesque road trip to see the finest roadside offerings and oddities in the beautiful state of West by-God Virginia. Just how much fun can be crammed into 3 days? We're about to find out!
The plan:
Saturday: leave Richmond and caravan to our first stop: Lost World Cave, discovery place of the darling of the Weekly World News, Bat Boy 🦇 We'll do a cave tour here and learn all about this little scamp! We'll follow up our cave tour with lunch and a brew at nearby Greenbrier Valley Brewing. They have beers named in homage of Bat Boy and Mothman! After lunch we'll make our way to our hotel in Ripley, WV. In the evening we will explore the town of Ripley.
Sunday: Mothman Festival... ready to eat, drink, people watch, and learn all about this WV Legend.
Monday: We will travel back to Richmond-potential stops for short hikes or points of interest.
Make sure as sure as you commit to attending, you book a hotel room.! The festival is a big deal and rooms will sell out. Some of the third party sites show the hotel as not available, but if you search directly on the Holiday Inn website (link below) there is availability.
Feel free to use the comments section to arrange sharing rooms, etc.
Specific stops along the way in addition to those listed will be finalized closer to the trip date.
The festival will be a people watchers dream :) Come join in the fun!!!!
