Hello and welcome to the AITP Lehigh Valley Chapter Meetup group!
Who are we?
We are the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP), a non-profit organization of CompTIA. Our mission is to provide our IT-business members with opportunities and resources necessary to develop and advance their IT careers. Our core values encompass integrity, respect, innovation and service. Most of our meetings are opened to non-members/professionals and students. Additional information about AITP can be found at our national website (https://www.aitp.org/).
Why?
Are you looking for insight on how technology can be used to your competitive advantage? Trying to stay abreast of the latest trends and best practices in your industry? Want to know what works, when, and most importantly why? So do we.
What and when?
We strive to acquire great speakers on current topics that would benefit our members and guests. We meet once per month with our season starting in September and ending on the following June. Due to the Holidays, we do not meet in December. The attire for our meetings is business-casual.
Where?
Our home base is located at the Starlight Diner, near the intersection of Route 78 and 100 South. Soft Skills for IT Professionals: Acquiring them with High-Tech Assistance
DeSales University, Preston Lane, Parking Lot between ball fields, Center Valley, PA, USOur next AITP Lehigh Valley regional meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, in the Trexler Room at DeSales University Center & Bookstore.
This presentation is open for members and non-members, faculty, staff, and students.
ABSTRACT:
Soft Skills for IT Professionals: Acquiring them with High-Tech Assistance
Within the last few years, there have been many articles reflecting a big change in industry – soft skills, such as public speaking, teamwork, and leadership, are being sought by IT industry recruiters (1). However, education in computer science and software engineering has traditionally been dominated by the teaching of “hard skills”, such as programming, databases, and math.
In this presentation, Dave Teumim, a certified career coach, soft skills trainer, and former cybersecurity consultant will review the gamut of soft skills that will be needed for different industry roles. Dave will review some new high tech ways of more quickly acquiring soft skills, such as using virtual reality and AI chatbots to help master skills like public speaking and leadership.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Dave Teumim, MSChE, CPCC was a resident of the Lehigh Valley for 31 years. After working as a chemical engineer in New York, he came down to the Lehigh Valley to work for AT&T, Lucent, and Agere Systems in a variety of positions. In 2001, he formed his own consulting firm, Teumim Technical, LLC, specializing in cybersecurity for critical infrastructure. In 2016 he was certified as a career coach, and he has been a frequent speaker at Lehigh Valley Professionals and AITP. He is a member of ATD, the Association for Training and Development, and a longtime member of Toastmasters International.
