What we’re about
For good or bad, the Matrix is coming. The Internet of Things. IoT. What is it and why does it matter?
According to Global Standards Initiative, IoT is the global infrastructure for the information society, enabling advanced services by interconnecting (physical and virtual) things based on existing and evolving interoperable information and communication technologies.
Essentially, IoT is about connectivity and data, and its evolving ecosystem is driven by mobility and convergence. Whether you're a software developer, hardware engineer or tech evangelist, it's up to us to shape the future.
What we want to become, Star Trek or Skynet (Terminator), starts here.

The Optical Network Emulator (ONE) Engine & EXODUS-5G: Emergency eXecution of...
Location not specified yetThis is an IEEE CVT luncheon event that will be held at UTD on Nov. 18th (11:30 to 1 pm).
You do not need to be an IEEE member to attend.
Come join us each month if interested in great networking and thought-provoking meeting topics.
Register at: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/event/register/513034
Meeting details and cost to attend is below. Reservation at above IEEE site (vTools) is required by Friday (11-15-25) noon if you'd like lunch. Free to attend if not having lunch.
Come join us on Tuesday Nov. 18th and hear two presenters (Linqi Xiao and Aparaajitha GL):
1st Presenter:
Aparaajitha GL (https://www.linkedin.com/in/aparaajitha-gl-752689100/)
Doctor of Philosophy - PhD, Electrical and Electronics Engineering,
The University of Texas at Dallas, Aug 2022Title:
"The Optical Network Emulator (ONE) Engine"
Abstract:The Optical Network Emulator (ONE) engine is a software-only solution designed to emulate the key functionalities of a wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical network in real time. It replicates the behavior of critical optical hardware components such as transponders and Reconfigurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) nodes entirely in software. The ONE engine aims to support open optical transport network (OOTN) initiatives by enabling early testing and validation of software-based solutions. Additionally, it can serve as an educational tool, allowing students and researchers to gain hands-on experience with OOTN and software-defined networking (SDN) technologies as applied to WDM transport networks, without the need for expensive optical equipment or physical infrastructure.
2nd Presenter:
Linqi Xiao (https://www.linkedin.com/in/linqi-xiao-15057321b/), third year PhD candidate in Dr. Andrea Fumagalli's OpenLab, mainly focus on Optical Communication Network and 5G ORAN researchTitle:
EXODUS-5G: Emergency eXecution of Orchestrated Displacement of 5G CU-UP Using O-RAN RICsAbstract:
EXODUS-5G is an automated 5G defense system that uses machine learning to detect cyber attacks on CU-UP (F1-score: 0.956) and autonomously migrates the compromised component to a secure location via optical transport network within 6-10 seconds detection and 1.2 seconds migration time, ensuring mission-critical communication continuity.Date: Nov. 18, 2025

Ron Dagdag
(https://www.linkedin.com/in/rondagdag/)with 7-Eleven, Inc.
(https://www.7-eleven.com/)will present:
Most IoT data isn’t tidy time-series. It’s messy images from edge cameras, PDFs from field service, audio from support calls, and long videos from inspections. In this session, we’ll turn that unstructured content into structured events your IoT apps can actually use.
We’ll walk the Analyzer flow in Azure AI Content Understanding, then run demos: extract fields from maintenance forms and invoices, summarize phone/radio calls, and segment inspection videos into searchable scenes tied to assets.
You’ll leave with an edge-to-cloud reference pipeline you can wire into alerts, search, analytics, and automation.
Ron Dagdag
is an accomplished R&D Engineering Manager at 7-Eleven, Inc., a Microsoft MVP, and a hands-on technologist with 25 years of experience delivering scalable, innovative solutions across retail, manufacturing, and technology services.Ron's career blends engineering automation, edge AI platforms, cloud-native development, and hands-on experimentation with emerging technologies — from AI, IoT to Mixed Reality. Whether leading cross-functional teams, defining reference architectures across Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud, or mentoring developers, his focus is always on practical innovation that drives real business impact.
Ron thrives at the intersection of technology, creativity, and collaboration — helping teams explore new technologies, build smarter systems, and grow their technical and leadership skills along the way.
