About us
Welcome! This is a new group (launched February 2026) for 45+ people who want to enjoy great events and meet old and new friends in a relaxed, no-drama environment. It's run by experienced Meetup organizers. Check us out! No group fee due for the first three months and only $10 CAD/year after that.
Our organizers bring their knowledge and enthusiasm from hosting popular, successful events in various other meetup groups, including the usual fun things (dinners, coffees, movies, walks, games, book discussions) as well as the less typical, like dancing to live music, cooking lessons, scooter tours, midnight kayaking under the full moon, Whitecap watch parties, and happy hours at high-end venues.
A note on the group's annual fee: We very much appreciate if you choose to pay the annual fee promptly upon joining, but also completely understand that you might want to take some time to check out a few of our events first. You have three months to pay from the date you’re approved to join. Payment options are via e-mail transfer or cash (in person). You’ll receive info about where to send the e-transfer when you’re approved to join.

Spring Social @ Dunbar Lawn Bowling Club (paid) | Optional Croquet/Lawn Bowling
Dunbar Lawn Bowling Club, 3850 W 31st Ave, Vancouver, BC, CAThis event is a great opportunity for a larger number of us to mingle, chat, play, and relax together in a private, treed setting. If you haven't yet been able to make it out to one of our events, this would be an excellent chance to do so, since we have a lot more space than usual. And if you have already been to one or more of our events, then come out to catch up with the regulars and meet some newer members.
We've booked the whole Dunbar Lawn Bowling club, which will give us both indoor (clubhouse) and outdoor space (weather allowing) to hang out - and without loud background music to shout over while conversing. Because we have ample space, group members are welcome to bring up to 2 guests (at $5 pp).
Plus, there's the option to learn and play both croquet and lawn bowling.
Costs
Social only: $5 pp to help cover the cost of renting this venue. You can bring this in cash and pay us in person.Social + croquet or lawn bowling (inc. lesson, 90 min of play, equipment): $35. Limited space. 15 people can play croquet at once but others can lawn bowl at the same time. If you plan to play, be sure to wear only flat-soled shoes with no heels and no deep treads while on the green.
Guests are welcome to participate in these games as well (and must also pay the fee).**Secure your croquet/lawn bowling spot by sending a $35 e-transfer to Sarah at vansocial45@gmail.com. Use this password: Dunbar. Also RSVP here, as per usual.
Note that the croquet/lawn bowling fee is nonrefundable unless play is cancelled for weather reasons. If you sign up and then can't make it, you can always try to find someone to take your place.
Other details
Food and drink: It's BYO for your drinks (alcoholic or otherwise) and snacks (i.e., dinner). Bring a small cooler bag if you wish, as fridge space is limited.
Note: You only need to bring snacks/dinner and drinks for yourself. However, if you'd like to use this special event as an opportunity to share your favourite dish or dessert, that would also be welcome and appreciated. In that case, please also bring a serving utensil.
We'll bring:
-Plastic cups (which must be used when drinking on or near the croquet/bowling green).
-Disposable plates, bowls, cutlery and napkinsThe clubhouse has tables and chairs, as well as a basic kitchen with a sink, refrigerator, oven and microwave. They also have some metal warming trays for the oven.
Clean-up: This is a self-serve venue and we'll need to tidy up the equipment and areas used for food prep and service after we're done. Big karma points to those who pitch in to help.
RSVP deadline: May 30th. We need to advise the venue of numbers by then.
P.S. If there's a good response and turnout for this event, we will try to organize a larger event like this at least once a quarter...

Wyper & Parker Rock Duo + Cambie Happy Hour
The Cambie, 300 Cambie Rd, Vancouver, BC, CAThis time at the Cambie we'll check out the blues-rock duo, Wyper & Parker. The Wyper half is Josh Wyper, who also happens to be the new manager at the Cambie, and whom some of you might have met or noticed behind the bar or pitching in on service on recent Sunday nights.
Wyper and Parker have played at Gastown's Guilt and Co regularly in the past. This video is seven years old and includes an extra guitar player but will give you the gist.
From the band's promo blurb: "....close your eyes and feel the energy, heart and soul of a R&B-infused rock band giving you everything they've got.
A danceable, driving rhythm section, wailing bluesy guitars, and a singer who sounds like Rod Stewart and Joe Cocker's secret lovechild."And as always, you can just come to enjoy the good company, great Cambie atmosphere and their budget-friendly happy hour menu (till 9pm). No cover.
We have two tables reserved for 5:30, which will give us some time to chat before the music starts at 7pm. The music will go till 10 pm, but you might wish to leave earlier.
If you like local history, here's a great article about the history of The Cambie Pub.
