About us
35+ On The Town is a group for grown ups to have some fun, social times. We focus on dinner/drinks, festivals, excursions, game nights, movie nights, museums, crafting, tastings, read 'n' watch discussions, tea rooms, and fun stuff around town. Maybe a little nerdy stuff here and there. Our events are typically in Hillsborough or Pinellas counties, with ones in Pasco occasionally, and we try to spread the locations around, so the drive isn't burdensome for the same people repeatedly.
We are a no-drama group and expect people to be respectful and considerate of others. All backgrounds are welcome.
Please RSVP to events considerately. If you realize you can't attend, please change your RSVP with plenty of time, so those on the waitlist can join. Due to a lot of last minute drops and No Shows, we have changed our approach to posting our evening dinners and many other events. Dinners now will only be posted about a week in advance, and RSVPs will close the day prior to an event.
We do our best to remind people to make sure they're available and to let them know when they've made it off the waitlist and into the event, on top of the notifications the Meetup platform always sends. So, No Shows with no notification of an emergency will be removed from the group. Also, because we close RSVPs the day before most events, backouts on the same day as the event are considered No-Shows. Please just be responsible and considerate with your RSVPs. We give you plenty of notice.
We have a very fun, annual, holiday party with a white elephant gift exchange in Dec. Members who have attended at least 2 events during a given year will have priority in attending.
Just come, be yourself, respect others, and have fun.

🤖 Deeper Conversations: Optimizing for Life with AI
Good Fortune, 260 1st Ave South, #100, St. Petersburg, FL, USA.I. will likely affect your daily life and work deeper and sooner than you may realize. Let's talk about what you can do to optimize for life with A.I.— both now and in the near future. You don't need to know anything about A.I. to attend; and if that is your situation, then you really should attend.
“Deeper Conversations” is a monthly event series where we meet in a semi-quiet space to discuss a meaningful topic that doesn't usually come up in daily life. These events are a staple for several members, so don't wait to RSVP!
September's Theme: Optimizing for Life with A.I.
We will focus on what A.I. can already do to improve your work and daily life, and the possible positive and negative impacts it could have for yourself and everyone you know in the next few years. We will not be discussing A.I. data centers, politics, legalities, or ethics. We will focus on what is possible and likely to change due to the digital technology of artificial intelligence. The less time we can spend explaining A.I.'s current status and projected progress, the more meaningful discussions we could have about it. So like a book club— but for video— I highly recommend you first listen to this interview with OpenAI's former Future Forecaster, who turned down a $2 million bribe so he could tell you the truth about what the AI companies are planning to do. What he says might shift your paradigms and leave you reconsidering decisions you're making right now. He gives the most straightforward and complete explanations I've found about how various A.I. development timelines can impact the world positively and negatively. Any amount of that interview you can watch will help you better participate in our conversation.
Example questions include: "What does A.I. currently do for you that you think others would love to know it can do for them?" AND "Does the forecast say A.I. should be able to replace your job before you retire; and if so, what are you doing about it?"
Event photo: if you don't recognize the Chinese dancing/fighting robots, you need to see them in action. Prepare to redefine what you thought was "the future" and realize how far behind the US is. 😳 Then consider that video is already 7 months old, and China just held their second robot Olympics in August!
How It Works: I will bring a curated list of conversation starter questions that have been vetted to be non-political and non-religious, while sparking meaningful, uplifting, or intellectual conversations. They will be roughly sequenced from lighter to deeper questions, so we can get to know each other before diving deep.
THEMED VENUE
We'll bask in the futuristic neon vibes at Good Fortune Japanese restaurant in Saint Petersburg. Their Wednesday night special is 25% off all specialty rolls and cocktails for ladies. Preview their menu.IMPORTANT: This restaurant will charge my credit card $15.00 per person if we change the number of people in our reservation less than 24 hours in advance. Our Meetup RSVPs close 25 hours before the event, so I will ask everyone to confirm their RSVP in the comments 3 days in advance. If you don't reply to confirm between 25-72 hours in advance, then your RSVP will be cancelled to prevent me paying their change fee. No-shows and cancellations after RSVPs close will be removed from this Meetup.
RSVPs open 2 weeks in advance of the closing date to help prevent last-minute cancellations.
